Science & Art, Kunst und Musik werden im vorliegenden Werk mit Hilfe einer proprietären künstlichen Intelligenz so ineinander transformiert, wie es Wassily Kandisky mit seiner natürlichen Intelligenz als Synästhet gemacht hat. Der künstliche Synästhet- ein neuronales Netz- wurdedabei so programmiert und trainiert, dass derKI-Algorithmus das Verständnis des Künstlers von Synästhesie selbstständig ausführt und in diesem Beispiel den Abba-Titel "Money Money Money" als Bild interpretiert. Auf die Sight & Sound-Idee kam Wolfgang Heckl bei einem Besuch im Münchner Lenbachhaus. Dort sah er "Impression III (concert)"- ein Bild von Wassily Kandinsky, das als Essenz eines Konzerts seines Freundes Arnold Schönberg Anfang 1911 entstand. "Ich erkannte, dass Kandinsky Töne hörte, wenn er eine Farbe sah. Und wenn er Farben sah, spielte für ihn Musik," so Heckl. "Kandinsky hatte sein Werk allein mit seiner natürlichen Wahrnehmungsintelligenz geschaffen. Jetzt wollte ich wissen, ob ich es ihm zumindest mit der Unterstützung von Computern und Künstlicher Intelligenz gleichtun konnte." Wolfgang Heckl versucht also, die Stimmung der Musik in ein Bild umzusetzen, so wie es schon Kandinsky mit seinem Werk als Ausdruck synästhetischer Vorstellungskraft getan hatte. Auch das Hören von Bildern durch die Rücktransformation von Bilddaten in eine Partitur wird im Rahmen einer Zwölftonumsetzung versucht. Ziel dieser experimentellen Kunst ist, auch die beiden unterschiedlichen menschlichen Sinne Hören und Sehen, die für Emotionen stehen, zu verbinden, um mehr über die menschliche Perzeption zu erfahren. Wolfgang Heckl hat als Nanowissenschaftler eine Theorie des molekularen Malens als Selbstorganisationsphänomen einzelner (Pigment-)Moleküle entwickelt, die er in modernen Gemälden umsetzt und als Molekularismus bezeichnet. Er beschäftigt sich seit vielen Jahren mit der Idee von Sight & Sound, also der Frage des Zusammenhangs von Bild- und Audiodaten, die er zunächst mit analytischen Algorithmen untersuchte und in neuerer Zeit mit Hilfe von KI-gestützten Methoden. "Heckls KI-Algorithmus transformiert zunächst die Töne in Farben, dann folgt die Übertragung von der linearen Anordnung (nach der Partitur der Töne) in eine flächige Anordnung, und sodann lernt die KI wie sich für ihn Musik anfühlt. KI ist wie ein kleines Kind, das von Heckl lernt wie sein Gefühl beim Hören von Musik sich in ein Kunstwerk übersetzt. Das ist Heckls Synästhesie, die dann der KI-Algorithmus auf jedes neue Musikstück anwenden kann. Heckl ist ein wahrer Künstler."
