Biografische Meilensteine
Yang Chihung, geboren 1947 in Taiwan, zählt zu den einflussreichsten zeitgenössischen Künstlern taiwanischer Herkunft. Schon in seiner frühen Kindheit interessierte er sich für Kunst und wurde durch die Lektüre von "Lust for Life - The Life of Vincent van Gogh" inspiriert, eine künstlerische Laufbahn einzuschlagen. Nach seinem Studium an der National Academy of Art in Taiwan emigrierte er 1979 in die USA, wo er als erster taiwanischer Künstler eine Förderung erhielt. Unter dem Einfluss des abstrakten Expressionismus, insbesondere von Jackson Pollock, löste sich Yang Chihung in den 1990er-Jahren von figurativen Darstellungen und erkundete verstärkt emotionale Ausdrucksformen. Seine Werke zeichnen sich durch expressive, gestische Malerei und eine intuitive, fast meditative Technik aus. Neben zahlreichen internationalen Ausstellungen sind Arbeiten von Yang Chihung in renommierten Museen wie dem Singapore Art Museum zu finden. Damit bleibt er eine Schlüsselfigur in der asiatisch-amerikanischen Kunstszene.

"A Trip to the Jungle" entführt den Betrachter in eine expressive, mystische Dschungelszene. Die großformatige Arbeit ist voller exotischer Pflanzen- und Tierdarstellungen und gewährt einen Einblick in diese verborgene Welt. Angelockt von einer prächtigen, pinkfarbenen Blume klettert ein schwarz-weiß gemusterter Leguan einen Ast hinauf. Währenddessen sitzt ein kleiner schwarzer Vogel auf einem kahlen Baum und blickt auf einen Hirschschädel mit weit aufragendem Geweih, das auf Vergänglichkeit verweist. Kräftige Rot- und Grüntöne kontrastieren mit dunklen, erdigen Farben und verleihen dem Bild eine fast surreale Intensität. Yang Chihungs dynamischer Pinselstrich verbindet Elemente westlicher Abstraktion mit östlicher Symbolik und erschafft eine visionäre, traumähnliche Szenerie.
