Antique arms and armour from all over the world
At the much-anticipated Anniversary Auction, Hermann Historica is set to unveil a remarkable collection of nearly 400 historical artifacts in the antique arms and armor segment on Thursday, May 16. This event promises a treasure trove of artifacts from across the globe, likely to ignite a fierce bidding war, especially over samurai armor, Ottoman yataghans, and medieval knightly swords.
The auction features a splendid yokohagi do gusoku samurai armor from the late Edo period, highlighting the enduring traditions of the Japanese warrior class. This lot, number 3093, showcases the intricate design and craftsmanship of samurai armor, with its ornately decorated leather and metal plates, vivid lacquering, and silk lacing, available for 3,500 euros.
Also showcased is a magnificent daisho, the iconic pair of swords comprising a katana and a wakizashi, which epitomize the samurai's martial spirit. Lot number 3103 features an exquisite daisho set from the Tokugawa period, crafted by the renowned Kanemoto family, valued at 15,000 euros.
From the European front, a luxurious morion helmet from circa 1590 Milan, lot number 3202, will be available. This helmet, a symbol of both protection and status, features elaborate chased ornaments and etchings, reflecting the high artistry of the time, with a bidding start at 9,500 euros.
