Online auction at HERMANN HISTORICA 8-13 July 2024: Kunst, Antiquitäten & Antiken

With over 4,800 objects, the Hermann Historica auction house is now attracting its numerous bidders worldwide to the screens again after the brilliant anniversary auction in May. Bids can be placed on up to five platforms from 8 to 13 July. The range on offer is once again extremely broad and art collectors can look forward to sensations. Never before have there been so many rarities that six full days had to be scheduled for an "online only" auction.

Art, antiquities and antiques

This week-long auction will kick off on Monday, 8 July at 10:00 a.m. with almost 740 lots ranging from antiques and antiquities to arts and crafts. Collectors will be thrilled by the variety of exceptionally beautiful objects.

Right at the beginning, Hermann Historica presents a masterpiece of ancient small-scale art, as could be found in senatorial households in the period from the 1st century BC to the 1st century AD. BC to the 1st century AD. The rare marble pyx with the lot number 8037 is decorated all around with a very finely cut and composed frieze. This small work of art is for sale at a starting price of 4,000 euros.

Lovers of porcelain will get their money's worth with a delightful collection from southern Germany. Almost forty individual pieces - primarily Meissen porcelain - can change hands. There are also finely crafted pieces for beginners.

The object with the lot number 8500 should be mentioned as an example. This is a small snowball vase that was created around 1890. However, the decoration was designed between 1740 and 1750 by Johann Joachim Kaendler, one of the best modellers at the Meissen porcelain manufactory. For the starting price of 400 euros, it is a real bargain.

Hermann Historica has a surprise in store for lovers of African art. A collection of around 50 pieces - consisting mainly of masks and figures - will enchant collectors, such as lot number 8350, a Dan mask from Liberia, 20th century, which will enter the race with a starting price of 500 euros.

Antique arms and armour from all over the world

On Tuesday, 9 July, from 9:00 a.m., everything at Hermann Historica will revolve around the approximately 330 precious pieces from the "Antique arms and armour from all over the world" section. All continents are represented with fascinating pieces.

Collectors of treasures from Southeast Asia will probably place their bids on lot number 9147. The Malaysian King Fisher Kris is likely to be a real temptation. The flamed iron blade impresses with a silver-inlaid inscription on both sides and a slightly cut root. The overall finely and very elaborately crafted piece is for sale with a starting price of €1,500. Bidding wars are already foreseeable.

Also from the other side of the world are more than fifty rare pieces from Japan. The item with lot number 9091 is a fine example of a protective weapon: the Hineno Kabuto dates from the Edo period. Edo is the old name for Tokyo. From the 17th century to the 19th century, Edo was the seat of the Tokugawa shogunate and gave this period of Japanese history the name Edo period. During this time, Edo grew to become one of the largest cities in the world, and the Hineno calotte is made from five iron plates and features an original textile lining and a red Sabinuri lacquer finish. This fine piece has a starting price of 1,800 euros.

Orders and military collectibles until 1918

On 9 July, from 12:00 noon, the Militaria department will start with almost 600 objects. As always, the historically significant collector's items ranging from medals to uniforms, photo albums and documents are impressive.

The Franz Joseph Order 1st Class with the lot number 10056 stands out among the medals. It is made of gold and was produced by Vincenz Mayer, a jeweller in Vienna and supplier to the Imperial and Royal Court. He was also one of the most important jewellers of the Order in Vienna in the 19th and 20th centuries. This valuable piece is offered from 2,000 euros.

This fine portrait of King Max I of Bavaria is a pastel on cardboard. Max I Joseph was the first King of Bavaria and is undisputedly regarded as the creator of the modern Bavarian state. The portrait with the lot number 10398 shows the Bavarian king in a dark blue coat with a mild look at his subjects. He wears a buckle with four miniature medals under his left collar. Fans of Bavarian history can bid from a starting price of 500 euros.

A truly impressive helmet from the Garde du Corps regiment, a cuirassier regiment in the guard cavalry of the Prussian army. The unique example with the typical parade eagle made of nickel silver is in good condition. Under lot number 9443, this historically significant piece will change hands for at least 3,000 euros.

Five centuries of antique and modern firearms

On two days, Wednesday 10 July and Thursday 11 July, the long-established auction house Hermann Historica will impress its bidders with almost 1,900 firearms from five centuries. No collector should miss these auction days. Never before have there been so many rarities and sought-after models in an "online only" auction.

One highlight is definitely lot 11314, a Winchester Model 1866 Carbine. The imposing weapon with a length of more than one metre was considered a typical cowboy weapon, suitable for the saddles of horses and yet very accurate. It was so popular that it was on Winchester's production schedule for decades. Its trademark was the brightly polished brass receiver. The above-average condition of this extremely rare model, which will start at a price of 2,200 euros, is tempting for enthusiasts.

Collectors of modern weapons will also be delighted. A unique opportunity, for example, are seven rare and sought-after Walther Mod. 2. With different prices and states of preservation, they are affordable for all collectors.
