Amaldus Nielsen was a Norwegian painter of the 19th and 20th centuries. He is known as a master of the landscape genre. Nielsen is called the first naturalist painter in Norway. He mainly painted pictures of Scandinavian nature in a realistic style.
Amaldus Nielsen achieved early recognition in his home country and for many years he constantly participated in national as well as international exhibitions, receiving awards for his works. The best masterpieces of his work are now preserved in the museums of Oslo, where the painter lived most of his life. The biography of the master is closely connected with his native Norway, although he had time to visit several European countries.
In 1890 Nielsen was awarded the Norwegian Order of St. Olav, first class. One of the squares in Oslo is named after the painter, where his bust is installed.
