Carl Arnold Gonzenbach
Carl Arnold Gonzenbach was a Swiss painter, engraver and draftsman. Carl Gonzenbach attended the painting school of Johann Jakob Lips in Zurich from 1821 to 1825, then with Johann Heinrich Felsing and with Samuel Amsler in Munich, where he had been enrolled at the art academy since 1826. In 1828 he traveled to Paris, where he worked with François Forster , 1831/32 he undertook a journey to Italy. He then returned to St. Gallen, where he worked as a portrait painter and gave drawing lessons. In addition to a few portraits in oil, he reproduced cardboard and copper engravings based on pictures by Wilhelm von Kaulbach, Julius von Schnorr, Bonaventura Genelli and Ludwig Vogel.
