Edmond De Pratere
Edmond-Joseph de Pratere is a Belgian decorator, realist, landscape and animal painter. Started as a landscape painter around 1850. However, under the influence of animal painters Louis Robbe and Edvard Wutermartens, he also began to draw animals from about 1857. During this period he worked alternately in Kortrijk and Brussels, but in 1866 settled permanently in Ixelles. He also worked frequently in and around Verne. Since that time (about 1865) his paintings are known, which depict shrimp fishermen. Between 1850 and 1887 he took part in the triennial salons in Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels, and from 1861 in the salons in Paris. He made a large number of trips around Europe, from which he brought many sketches from nature. His paintings, often created en plein air, provide romantically realistic depictions of animals in nature. Later works lean towards Impressionism.Date and place of birt: | 26 may 1826, Kortrijk, Belgium |
