Maurits Leon
Maurits Leon was a Dutch history and genre painter. Leon studied from 1853 to 1854 at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague under the direction of Bartholomeus Johannes van Hove, Hubertus van Hove, David Bles and Petrus Franciscus Greive. He dealt with genre painting, especially motifs from the Jewish cult. In 1859 he visited Antwerp, from 1860 to 1865 he lived in Amsterdam, in 1865 he returned to The Hague. At the Amsterdam Exhibition in 1865 he won a gold medal for his "Dissolution of the Sacred Scroll of the Law". From 1859 he took part in exhibitions in The Hague and Leeuwarden.
