Thomas Ludwig Herbst was a German Impressionist painter; known mostly for landscapes and animal portraits.
David Gauld was an important Scottish artist who worked in both oils and stained glass and was regarded as being one of the innovators within the Glasgow Boys group. Some of his works, such as St Agnes and Music are seen as precursors of the Art Nouveau movement. His works were seen as having both a Japanese and Pre-Raphaelite influence upon them.
Friedrich Otto Gebler was a German animal painter.
Gebler studied at the academies in Dresden and Munich and specialized in rural themes and animalistic painting. The main character in Goebler's paintings is sheep, the life of which he studied thoroughly. The sheep graze, rest, worry, there are even expressive portraits of sheep. Contemporary critics have recognized him as the best artist in this subject.
