gerda schlembach (1951)
Gerda Schlembach is a German artist, designer, sculptor and teacher.
Gerda studied graphic design at the University of Applied Sciences in Würzburg, and free art with an emphasis on sculpture at the Art Academy of Münster.
Schlembach's main material is glass, whose transparent, reflective and fluid properties fascinate the artist, but she knows how to use them at her creative will. Her works oscillate between concreteness and imagination and direct the gaze from the surface to "depth". In Schlembach's works, between the layers of glass we can see vegetal, amorphous and archetypal forms that resemble herbarium or show "immersion in murky waters". Glass allows us to look at the world, lets in light and at the same time keeps the environment out. Graphic, rhythmic, ornamental and constructive as well as narrative are integral elements of Gerda Schlembach's work.
The successful artist also holds teaching positions at the Universities of Applied Sciences in Würzburg and Düsseldorf as well as at the University of Essen.
