Nikolay Gustavovich Schilder (Russian: Николай Густавович Шильдер) was a 19th-century Russian artist of Baltic-German origin. He is known as a painter and graphic artist who belonged to the so-called "small" genre painters of the 1860s.
Nikolay Shilder painted to order portraits, hunting scenes, copies of paintings by old masters, and icons for churches. He painted portraits of Emperor Alexander III and members of the royal family. Thematic pictures of the artist, mainly dedicated to the fate of "little man," are characterized by critical orientation, straightforward and demonstrative development of the plot. The painter's painterly manner is notable for its refinement, restrained coloring and thorough elaboration of details.
