Jan Gossaert was a French-speaking painter from the Low Countries also known as Jan Mabuse (the name he adopted from his birthplace, Maubeuge) or Jennyn van Hennegouwe (Hainaut), as he called himself when he matriculated in the Guild of Saint Luke, at Antwerp, in 1503. He was one of the first painters of Dutch and Flemish Renaissance painting to visit Italy and Rome, which he did in 1508–09, and a leader of the style known as Romanism, which brought elements of Italian Renaissance painting to the north, sometimes with a rather awkward effect. He achieved fame across at least northern Europe, and painted religious subjects, including large altarpieces, but also portraits and mythological subjects, including some nudity.
Frans Hals was a Dutch painter who painted during the so-called Golden Age. He is considered to be one of the most important old Dutch masters. As far as is known, Frans Hals worked all his life in Haarlem and became best known for his lively and colourful paintings of his contemporaries.
Franz Michael Katz was a nineteenth-century German painter. He is known as a graphic artist, watercolorist, portraitist, miniaturist, collector and teacher.
Katz founded the Higher School of Drawing and Painting in Cologne, which quickly gained a reputation as a prestigious institution for the city's wealthy residents. Jan Miel was a Flemish painter and printmaker who worked in Italy.
As a young man Miel worked in the Bamboschade genre: his paintings depict dancing villagers, gamblers and charlatans, barbers and shoemakers, traveling musicians and actors.
Miele diversified the genre painting of the time with carnival scenes. Miele also executed several frescoes in Roman churches, decorated the Quirinale Palace, and was court painter to the Duke of Savoy. Later he moved away from genre painting and painted historical subjects in the classical style.
Miele's works are kept in many museums in Europe and the United States, several of them in the Hermitage.

Van Douven spent most of his life in Düsseldorf, where as court painter he painted many portraits, including portraits of the Palatinate Elector Johann-Wilhelm and his second wife Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici. He was also instrumental in the creation of the art gallery in the Düsseldorf Palace. The artist accompanied his sovereign on a trip to Vienna, where he painted portraits of the Austrian emperor and his wife, as well as other aristocrats and famous personalities.
Willem van Herp was a Flemish Baroque painter specializing in religious paintings and small cabinet paintings of "low-life" genre scenes. He operated a large workshop and through his good connections with Antwerp art dealers helped spread the Flemish Baroque style internationally.
Johannes (Jan) Wierix was a Flemish engraver, draughtsman, and publisher. He was a very accomplished engraver who made prints after his own designs as well as designs by local and foreign artists.
Together with other members of the Wierix family of engravers he played an important role in spreading appreciation for Netherlandish art abroad as well as in creating art that supported the Catholic cause in the Southern Netherlands. Johannes Wierix is also known for his miniature pen drawings.
