A PAIR OF GEORGE III SILVER-GILT CANDLESTICKS

Each on openwork tripod scroll base applied with acanthus and laurel swags, the stems each formed as a classical allegorical figure emblematic of the goddess Flora, draped with garlands of flowers holding an openwork acanthus knop below a floral fluted drip-pan, the socket chased with acanthus, engraved on the bases with a coat-of-arms with baron's coronet above, marked under bases and on socket

11 1/4 in. (31.1 cm.) high

70 oz. 8 dwt. (2,189 gr.)

The arms are those of Arundell with Conquest in pretence, for Henry Arundell, 8th Baron Arundell of Wardour (1740-1808), of Wardour Castle, Wiltshire and his wife Mary Christina (b.c.1743-1813), daughter and heiress of Benedict Conquest of Irnham Hall, Lincolnshire, whom he married in 1763.
