Film release memorabilia from the landmark hit, including a first edition book signed by Steve Jobs.
Toy Story was Pixar's first feature film and the first fully computer‑animated feature film. It also reinvented Steve Jobs and made him his first billion. Jobs bought Pixar from Lucasfilm in 1986 for about $10 million. After Toy Story’s success, Pixar went public at a valuation that made Jobs a billionaire for the first time—before his return to Apple.
Jobs was interviewed in 1996 and described Pixar as "the only place in the world that can hire the best from both Hollywood artistry and Silicon Valley engineering.” As summarized by CartoonBrew, "Managing that talent meant inverting the usual hierarchy. 'The CEO is actually at the bottom,' [Jobs] says. 'I feel like I work for most of these people.' Working with Disney taught Pixar the discipline of story construction, editing a film before it’s animated. 'You can’t buy that wisdom for love or money,' Jobs says. What technology enables, though, is never the point. 'No amount of technology can turn a bad story into a good story. It’s the story, stupid ... People are going to be watching Toy Story in 60 years,' he says, not for the graphics, but 'because of the story about friendship.'" (Jamie Lang, "People Will Be Watching ‘Toy Story’ In 60 Years’: Watch Steve Jobs In A Never-Before-Seen 1996 Interview," Cartoon Brew, 19 November 2025).
