Two pages, 263 x 201mm, on Allied Force Headquarters letterhead, (slight discoloration).
Eisenhower updates his brother Arthur regarding family affairs. He expresses his gratitude towards his brother for keeping him informed on how their mother is doing, "So far as I am personally concerned, you are doing me a great service and one from which I derive a tremendous amount of satisfaction." He expresses his hatred of war but a stronger conviction that it is everyone's duty to obey their government during an emergency, quoting Stephen Decatur: "Right or wrong, my country." At the time of his letter, Dwight Eisenhower was serving as Commander in Chief Allied expeditionary Force and lead Operation Torch in North Africa. He remarks on the "very satisfactory tactical victory" in Tunisia and the ongoing effort required by the United Nations to eliminate the Axis military threat during World War II. He finishes the letter with an encouraging message about everyone having a role to play in the war effort, whether they be a civilian or soldier.
