All of his works are distinguished by luxury. The lines are balanced and elegant, the carvings are numerous and executed subtly and tastefully.

Georges Jacob, nicknamed Jacob the Elder, was a famous furniture maker of the French Neoclassical period. He was a pupil of Louis Delanois. Georges Jacob lived a long and rich life, during which he worked in many styles. He started out as a Rococo master in 1765 and was a supplier to the royal court and in particular to Marie-Antoinette (Queen of France since 1774), but soon moved on to the more austere style of French Neoclassicism and, later, Empire.
