Empire Clock in representing a Horse and a Dog in Gilt Bronze 19th Century Bronze Empire 19th century
Restoration-period bronze clock with brown and gilded patina depicting a horse playing with a small dog.Beautiful mercury gilding, the alternating patinas give a nice balance to the whole, as does the work on the details of the horses head and mane, the saddle cover, the little dog and the ground on which they are playing. The scene is very lively, adding a touch of originality that sets it apart from the usual, often frozen, subjects.Round ormolu dial with Roman numerals, adorned on either side with leafy interlacing and rais de coeur, topped by a small cornice decorated with friezes of water leaves and interlacing, with a base highlighted by a frieze of scrolls, also in ormolu. The clock rests on a rectangular ormolu base decorated with a lintel of stylized water leaves. This clock has been entirely cleaned and overhauled by our watchmaker, and is in perfect working order. Wire movement. Restoration period clock ( 1814 - 1830 )
