Gouache Painting by Michèle Cascella (1892-1989) 20th century
Michèle Cascella was an Italian artist renowned for his post-impressionist landscape paintings. Inspired by the works of Vincent Van Gogh, Raoul Dufy, and Maurice Utrillo, Cascella employed watercolours and pastels to create vibrant hues that mirror the lush flora of the Abruzzi soil, where he was raised. He was still a teenager during his first exhibition and later encountered Filippo Tommaso Marinetti and Giorgio de Chirico while living in Milan. He exhibited regularly at the Venice Biennale from 1924 until 1942, and his works are owned by major museums in Italy and Europe, including Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume in Paris, and Galleria Nazionale dArte Moderna in Rome. He passed away on August 31, 1989, in Milan at the age of 96.This painting depicts a seaside scenery near Portofino, a region that was very dear to his heart. The measurements of this piece, including the frame are: 88 x 73 cm.
