Necessaire , made of gilded metal, decorated with rocales, flowers and an image of playing putti. Model 1750. A necessaire is a small box for items considered essential to everyday life. These can be simple items, such as a knife or other cutlery in a leather case, or they can be elaborate containers made of precious metals that conceal essentials for the owner, such as manicure tools or a sewing kit. Small decorative boxes intended for miniature accessories are also sometimes called Étui.
