A small ceremonial wakizashi sword made at the end of the Meiji era demonstrates the highest level of craftsmanship by Japanese artisans at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries. The handle and sheath are completely covered with detailed bone carvings depicting scenes from mythology, samurai battle scenes, and traditional ornamental motifs. The guard (tsuba) is made of metal with gilded elements, creating a harmonious combination with the skillful bone carving. The steel blade has a slight curvature characteristic of traditional wakizashi and is decorated with engravings depicting dragons and plant motifs. The scabbard is decorated with three-dimensional reliefs, including symbols of luck and strength, such as mythical creatures, a dragon and heroic characters from Japanese epics.
