The marble case of fluted column form, surmounted by a putto above rooster heads suspending the dial, the enamel dial with Arabic minutes and hours, and inscribed 'Mignolet a Paris', on a spreading socle and further square base, mounted with trophies of love, the twin-barrel movement with tic-tac escapement and countwheel strike to bell

Probably acquired either by Baron Mayer Amschel de Rothschild, for Mentmore Towers, Buckinghamshire and by descent to his daughter Hannah de Rothschild, or by her husband (m. 1878), Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery (1847-1929).
By descent to the 7th Earl of Rosebery;
