MARK OF JOHN WHITE, LONDON, 1734

Shaped triangular, each on three dolphin mask feet, with shell and foliate scroll border chased with scrolls and scalework on matted ground, the field engraved with a band of shells, foliate scrolls and diaperwork, engraved in each corner with a crest and in the centre with a coat-of-arms within a shell and bullrush Rococo cartouche, marked on underside

13 in. (33 cm.) long

84 oz. 5 dwt. (2,621 gr.)

The arms are those of King with the cadency mark of a martlet for the fourth son, with Troye in pretence, for Thomas King, (1712-1779) and his wife Wilhelmina Catherine, daughter of John Troye, one of the judges of the Sovereign Court of Brabant, whom he married in 1734. After the death of his three elder brothers Thomas succeeded as 5th Baron King of Ockham in 1767.
