Each with an oval cartouche-shaped upholstered back within a molded frame carved at the crest with an anthemion, the shaped padded arms with over-scrolled molded hand-holds adorned with beaded and leaf-carved ornament, the back, seat, and arms covered in white silk with a large brocaded silver leaf pattern, English, Spitalfields, circa 1740, supported on foliate headed turned legs with gadrooned feet, with printed and inscribed Ann and Gordon Getty Collection inventory label

Commissioned by David Garrick, circa 1772, as part of the suite supplied by Chippendale for the Saloon at No. 5, Royal Adelphi Terrace, London.
