A PAIR OF GEORGE III SILVER-GILT MOUNTED COCONUT CUPS

MARK OF THOMAS PHIPPS AND EDWARD ROBINSON, LONDON, 1791

Each on plain reeded spreading trumpet foot, the body formed of a coconut elaborately carved with geometric motifs and a coat-of-arms below an earl's coronet and a crest and above a motto, with silver-gilt lining and rim mount, marked on interiors, rims and bases

73/4 in. (19.7 cm.) high

gross weight 22 oz. 4 dwt. (692 gr.)

The arms are those of Walpole, for Horace Walpole, 4th Earl of Orford (1717–1797).
