A PAIR OF GEORGE III SILVER TEA CADDIES IN SILVER-MOUNTED TORTOISE SHELL CASE

LONDON, 1771, MARK T.I. (GRIMWADE NO. 3840)

Each plain oval and engraved with scenes of Chinese figures in landscapes, one harvesting melons, one picking flowers, one contemplating herself, another holding bells, the hinged cover applied with flower sprig finial, the body engraved on the side with a crest in a shield, one with silver-gilt interior, one lead lined, with contemporary tortoiseshell veneered case with silver mounts, the applied central cartouche later engraved with a crest, with key, each marked underneath and in cover

the caddies 4 1/4 in. (10.7 cm.) high; the case 9 1/8 in. (23 cm.) wide

gross weight 19 oz. 19 dwt. (621 gr.)
