VENICE, CIRCA 1500

parcel-gilt polychrome enamel, with spiralling gadroons; the underside with two paper labels inscribed 'P.48 / 228' and 'UNION / CENTRALE / 189 / 4177'

10 2/3 in. (27 cm.) diam.

Baron Édouard de Rothschild (1868-1949).

Confiscated from the above by the Einsatzstab Reichsleiter

Rosenberg following the Nazi occupation of France in May 1940 (ERR no. R 3801).

Recovered by the Monuments Fine Arts and Archives Section Recovered by the Monuments Fine Arts and Archives Section from the Altaussee salt mines, Austria (no. 190/1), and transferred to the Munich Central Collecting Point, 20 June 1945 (MCCP no. 196/1).

Returned to France on 31 July 1946 and restituted to the Rothschild family.

By descent to the present owners.
