MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY), SIGNED SOMIN ZESHIN SHA (SHIBATA ZESHIN; 1807-1891) AFTER SOMIN (EDO PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY)

The round kagamibuta netsuke finely decorated, the lid simulating the metal work by Somin worked in seido-nuri (imitation of bronze) with fine details of incised Shoki walking in rain, interior of the plaque with incised wavy and light straight lines stimulating cloud and rain, the bowl in dark brown lacquer imitating wood grain; signed on interior of the plaque

1 3/4 in. (4.5 cm.) diam.
