Each panel inset with an associated eighteenth-century Japanese painting depicting the Tale of Genji, the rising action of the panels released by a button to the side, an ormolu handle to each panel top, above a pierced trellis panel, stamped J. CANABAS to right hand panel and branded BV beneath a crown to underside of two panels

Almost certainly supplied to Mesdames de France, the daughters of Louis XV and the aunts of Louis XVI, for their use at the château de Bellevue.
