An eagle on a thunderbolt, a Roman bronze appliqué, 2nd - 3rd century A.D.
Small, but extremely high-quality bronze appliqué representing an eagle standing on a thunderbolt with a twisted surface relief. The eagle taking off in flight, looking forwards, its head slightly lowered, beating its outstretched wings. Iron oxide residue from a pin, which was used to fix the appliqué on a support, in the area of the neck and head. Matte, dark green patina. Intact.
