ALBIN, Eleazar (circa 1680-1741). Histoire naturelle des oiseaux, ornée de 306 estampes, qui les représentent parfaitement au Naturel…traduite de l’anglois. La Haye : Pierre de Hondt, 1750.

Première édtion en français, avec plus de 300 planches coloriées. Exemplaire en reliure de l'époque, enrichi de 31 autres planches et d'un croquis. L'édition originale avait paru à Londres entre 1731 et 1738. Nissen, IVB, n°16 ; Fine Bird Books, p. 71.

3 vol. in-4 (286 x 226 mm). Bandeau gravé aux armes de Charles-Alexandre, duc de Lorraine. 306 planches par Albin, toutes mises en couleurs à l’époque. L’exemplaire est enrichi, en fin des vol. II et III, de 31 planches d’oiseaux et d’insectes, de format 110 x 170 mm, contrecollées sur des feuillets du format du volume. Ces planches ont été gravées par Filloeul d’après Van Kessel, et publiées à Paris chez Odieuvre. Encarté dans l’exemplaire, un dessin original de la seconde moitié du XVIIIe siècle, de format 220 x 190 mm, représentant un « Hauco venant du fort Dauphin ». Veau marbré de l’époque, triple filet doré en encadrement, coquilles aux angles, dos à nerfs, caissons ornés d’hermines héraldiques et de coquilles, pièce de titre de maroquin rouge, gardes de papier marbré, tranches rouges.

First edition in French, published around twenty years after the first English one. 306 bird plates, in contemporary hand-colouring, this copy enriched with 31 plates depicting birds and insects, and an original sketch. Contemporary calf binding.
