Lot 81 | ALTKLARINETTE SIGNIERT GIOSUE CAPECE, ITALIEN UM 1850
Estimate value
€ 1 500 – 3 000
Kammerton: a1=445Hz
Abmessungen: Gesamtlänge inkl. Mundstück: 95,9cm.
ALTO CLARINET SIGNED GIOSUE CAPECE, ITALY CIRCA 1850
The five-piece alto clarinet in Eb is made of straight boxwood. The mouthpiece is made of grenadilla. The twenty keys in the shape of hands and heart-shaped pushers are made of nickel silver. The instrument is in good condition for its age. The original mouthpiece, also signed, is present and can therefore provide accurate information about the playing characteristics. The clarinet is playable. The date of origin of the instrument can be dated to the middle of the 19th century due to the construction (complete bearing of the keys with pillars, mounted in the wood) and the axle screws.
The inscription "CAPECE GIOSUE" can be found several times on all parts, as well as other inlay signatures “CLAR_CAPECE Mb.” and "CLAR_CAPECE CAPECE INVENY". Whether this is the maker's signature is not proven, since no instrument maker with this name could be found. It is more likely that this is the name of the second lieutenant of the infantry regiment, who retired on 8 September 1860, with the name "Giosue Capece". The alto clarinet was appraised by Martin Wenner in 2022. His appraisal report is available.
Concert pitch: a1=445Hz
