Once set into a coffin lid or inner wooden cover, the wood covered by a thin layer of gesso and then painted red, overpainted in white for the sclera of the eyes and dark blue outlined in black for the eyebrows and cosmetic lines, the broad face sculpted with a slender, straight nose, the nostrils well detailed, the closed mouth slightly smiling, the vermillion line well defined.
