Homer writes on his repairs to the renter of his summer cottage in Maine with a drawing of his "gutter work." Homer explains that before he departed Maine at the end of May for the Adirondacks, he had "all the screens painted & put in, the shutters off, the piazza & whole house painted. The gutter tapped so that the water will run off without dropping on the piazza…" After offering a sketch of the "gutter work," he speculates that she "will be much pleased with the looks of the place," noting that flowers had been planted around the house. "I have pulled down most of the curtains but the cottage is open for you to walk in when ready…" He closes noting that he would be returning on 4 July.
[With:] Winslow HOMER. Partly printed document signed ("Winslow Homer"), Portland, Me. 19 June 1896. A check issued to "Bartlett Pillsbury" for $20. 68 x 162mm (punch cancellation).
