Le troisième chapitre de l’ouvrage est consacré à l’alimentation et aux usages dans ce domaine des Romains de l’Antiquité. L’auteur, professeur d’Histoire et de Belles-Lettres à l’Académie de Lausanne, fonde sa description sur celles des sources de l’époque, “laissant donc à part le déjeuné et le gouté, qui n’étoient gueres que pour les enfans & les artisans ; je dis que les auteurs, tant Grecs que Latins, qui ont parlé des usages de l’ancienne Rome, ont tous fait mention du diné”. Il s’attache ainsi à décrire les repas, leurs habitudes de consommation de nourriture et de vin, mais aussi la disposition de leur tables et la manière de prendre place. Exemplaire ravissant en maroquin rouge de l’époque aux armes de Jacques de Flesselles (1721-1789), conseiller d’État et dernier prévôt des marchands de Paris, décapité le 14 juillet 1789.
In-12 (144 x 87 mm). Titre imprimé en rouge et noir. Reliure de l’époque : maroquin rouge, armes de Jacques de Flesselles au centre des plats (O.H.R., pl. n° 1870, fer n° 1), triple filet doré en encadrement, dos à nerfs et caissons ornés, filet doré sur les coupes, gardes de papier marbré, tranches mouchetées (discrètes restaurations aux coiffes, frottements aux coupes et coins, légers frottements aux plats).
Provenance : Jacques de Flesselles (reliure aux armes) ; au verso de la contregarde, indication manuscrite de l’époque : “Tabl. 83/N°1704” ; Kilian Fritsch (vente 1993, n° 7).
A fine copy, in contemporary morocco stamped with the gilt arms of Jacques de Flesselles, the last provost of the merchants of Paris, beheaded on 14th July 1789. The book itself notably studies the ways Ancient Romans cooked, ate, and held receptions.

The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
