Post lot text ATTRIBUTED TO PIERRE REYMOND, SET OF THREE DRAWINGS OF OCCUPATIONS AND ANIMALS (RECTO AND VERSO), PEN AND BROWN AND BLACK INK, HEIGHTENED WITH WHITE, ON BLUE GREY WASHED PAPEROriginally from Limoges, Pierre Reymond managed an important studio of painted enamels during the 16th century (E. Rupin, ‘Pierre Reymond, émailleur à Limoges’, in Bulletin de la Société Scientifique, Historique et Archéologique de la Corrèze, VII, 1885, pp. 5-13). Even though he used color, Reymond specialised in grisaille for his enamels, as the present three double-sided drawings show. Each is made on a sheet of blue-grey paper: on the recto of the sheets we can see a miniaturist, a squirrel and a tavern-keeper, while the verso depicts a squirrel, a peacock and a portrait of a man in profile, respectively. Each sheet is numbered, suggesting they are pages from a dismantled album. Three drawings from the same series, attributed to Pierre Reymond and conserved at the Princeton University Art Museum, confirm this idea (inv. x1953-13, x1953-12, x1944-301). Did these drawings constitute a repertoire of models for this renowned enameller? In the same manner, the Musée du Louvre hold a round saltcellar in painted enamel and grisaille attributed to Pierre Reymond, on which one can identify the same figure of the peacock.
