Lot 2209Significant sitting Buddha Amida Nyôrai
Japan. Kamakura Period (1185-1333). Dated according to C14 analysis.

Wood with lacquer and gilding. Base made up of many individual parts and with an openwork middle part made of Bronze. The Buddha sits in Lotus posture with the hands in meditation gesture (jô in). With almost closed eyes, his expression turned inward. The kesa-robe is situated in the elegant folds and releases his chest. The original Socket in the Form of a Lotus flower is sold an openwork middle part from lower part.

The hand position is accurately known is also referred to as jôbon jôshô and for a rebirth in the highest level of the Western Paradise of the Buddha Amida is within the nine stages. Such a great character was certainly set up in a temple. Total height 72cm. Condition A/B. Partially restored.
