Tibet. 18. Century

Copper-bronze repoussé technology, and fire gilt. The Central female deity riding on a Wolf, this is identifiable by the characteristically shaped snout, paws and bushy tail. With the right Hand, wielding a sword above her head, in the left-hand jewels holding a Cup with Desire. She wears long robes and a small crown, her hair tied high up and behind her head shines a round Aureole. The niche, which surrounds the deity, shows a variety of Buddha and Buddhist deities. Centrally located above the female deity of the teaching of the Buddha with dharmacakra mudra, below the four-armed Bodhisattva Shadakshari Lokeshvara. Both figures are flanked by the historic Buddha Shakyamuni. At the height of the eyes of the main character are left White and the right is Green Tara. Below three mythical animals - Aries, Leo and elephant - arranged in pairs.

The Relief was probably part of a larger altarpiece in a temple. Height 60cm, width 55cm, depth 5cm. Condition A/B.
