Description: Signed 'Boucheron'. This bracelet was presented at the Paris World Exhibition in 1878 and
purchased from the jeweller Hemmerle in Munich. The miniatures depict the four seasons in
a neoclassical style. They were executed using the grisaille technique, an enamelling
method in which monochrome paintings, mostly in shades of grey, are created on a white
background. Fernand Paillet (1840-1918), a pupil of Carrier-Belleuse, was a master of this
technique. Paillet was a respected enamellist who mastered the art of enamel miniatures on
enamel and porcelain. His craftsmanship enabled him to produce works that were among the
first creative designs of the emerging Art Nouveau style. A historically very important
bracelet crafted with the finest artisanship.
