A rare collection of Indian Government papers relating to the Great Game, from the Library of General Sir Samuel Browne VC GCB, KCSI, documenting British military strategy, tactics and logistics on the Indian frontier around the time of the Second Afghan War. A prominent figure in the Indian Army and inventor of the eponymous Army leather belt, Browne commanded the Peshawar Field Force during the Second Afghan War. For this action Browne was made a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath. He was promoted to general in 1888 and retired in 1898 aged 74.

These twenty-six Indian Government confidential and other memoranda and reports relating to Indian Frontier Politics, 1877-1885, include a 9-page confidential report by Fred Roberts, 'What are Russia's Vulnerable Points?
