Beau recueil de près de cent aquarelles originales pour les Oeuvres de Buffon. Né à Genève, Jean-Gabriel Prêtre exerca son art principalement à Paris. Peintre de la ménagerie de l'impératrice Joséphine, puis au Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle, il contribue notamment à la monumentale Description de l'Egypte.
La composition de ses aquarelles originales est très proche des versions publiées : dans un encadrement à l'encre, avec en partie supérieure, le tome, le numéro de la planche dans ce tome et la page où doit se trouver la planche ; et en partie inférieure, la signature de l'artiste et la légende de la planche.
In-4 (233 x 197 mm). 96 aquarelles originales signées de Prêtre, la majorité à ce format, d'autres plus petites (220 x 175 mm). Demi-veau brun à coins de l'époque, dos à nerfs, gardes de papier marbré.
A very attractive album of 96 original waterolours, signed by Jean-Gabriel Prêtre. They were painted for the 1819-1822 edition of Buffon's Oeuvres complètes, issued in Paris by Rapet. Most of them depict fishes, and some reptiles and mammals.

After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
