Two autograph letters from father and son Camille and Lucien Pissarro to the author and art critic Gustave Geffroy, historiographer of the Impressionist movement. Camille Pissarro asks Gustave Geffroy to write a preface for a series of lithographs being produced by Georges Thornley, based on some of Pissarro’s paintings, ‘pour les presenter aux amateurs’. He compliments Geffroy on an article published in the Aurore. Lucien Pissarro thanks Geffroy for sending him one of his short novels, with which Pissarro hopes to do ‘quelque chose de bien’. Pissarro describes his plan to print several French-language ‘brochures’, which will feature a typeface designed by Charles Ricketts to complement their woodcut prints. He offers to include Geffroy’s story in one of these editions, ‘si vous le voulez bien’. He urges Geffroy to visit him in Epping if the writer ever travels to London.
