Estimate value
€ 7 000 – 10 000
Rare first edition. Covarrubias provides 'reglas y preceptos venatorios' for the different methods of hunting, which are examined from a theological viewpoint. He also treats of more ferocious animals and those who fought them in the roman circus. Bull-fighting is condemned on the grounds of danger to humans rather than compassion for the bull. Among the other recreations considered are chess, cards, dice and dancing.
