L'orfèvrerie dunkerquoise doit beaucoup à Guy Messiant qui fût tout au long de sa vie, un chercheur rigoureux, un œil affirmé et un merveilleux transmetteur de savoir. Dès les années 1970 il se penche sur les archives de la communauté des orfèvres de Dunkerque, reconstituant peu à peu l’état civil de ces derniers, leur date de réception, de mariage et d’inhumation. Mais ce sont les objets qui lui permettent de faire des recoupements avec les archives et d’établir les alphabets en usage de la fin du XVIIème à la Révolution. Ce travail de recherches lui permet de publier avec Christian Pfister, l’ouvrage de référence qui accompagnait l’exposition intitulée « Orfèvrerie en Flandres » portant sur l'orfèvrerie de Bergues et Dunkerque aux XVIIème, XVIIIème et XIXème siècles.
Collectionneur de poinçons, c’est un véritable autodidacte qui aime échanger avec tous les chercheurs de la région mais aussi à partager ses découvertes pour alimenter leur recherches.
Il contribua ainsi énormément à faire connaître et valoriser l’orfèvrerie de sa région. Membre actif de la Société des Amis du Musée des Beaux-Arts et de la société savante de sa ville, c’est tout naturellement qu’une partie des plus importantes pièces rassemblées tout au long de sa vie prennent désormais place dans les vitrines du musée de Dunkerque qui lui doit une part fondamentale de sa collection d’orfèvrerie.

First of all, you should register to be able to purchase at auction. Choose a lot from the upcoming auction and the maximum amount you want to place on it. After confirmation of your choice, we will send your application by e-mail to the appropriate auction house. The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
