The first English translation of Linnaeus’s dissertation on insects. Trained as an apothecary and an original fellow of the Linnean Society, Curtis published books on botany and entomology, including this English translation of Linnaeus’ Fundamenta entomologiae, which had originally appeared in Latin in 1767. In 1787, he launched his eponymous Botanical Magazine, the first illustrated botanical periodical, which has continued to the present day.
Octavo (210 x 130mm). 2 plates, leaf with index at end (fresh, crisp copy, first and final leaves slightly browned). Modern cloth. Provenance: Reinhold Charpentier (bookplate) – T.J. Dillon (bookplate).
