A set of Charles de Gaulle’s memoirs and writings, presented by the French president to Anthony Eden. The 3-volume set Mémoires de Guerre is printed on thick ‘alfa Cellunaf’ paper, ‘réservés aux anciens de la France Libre et aux membres des associations combattantes et résistantes de la guerre 1939-1945’.
9 volumes, octavo (228 x 145mm), all bound in original printed paper wrappers, mostly uncut (ring mark on upper cover of vol. I of Mémoires, some light soiling and a few insignificant nicks, otherwise in very good condition), comprising: Mémoires de Guerre. Paris: Plon, 1954. 3 volumes, thick paper copy printed on ‘alfa Cellunaf’. Provenance: Charles de Gaulle (authorial presentation inscriptions, to:) – Anthony Eden. [Together with:] – another later impression of vol. I with authorial presentation inscription. [And with:] – Mémoires d'espoir. Paris: Plon, [1970]. 2 volumes in glassine dustjackets. Provenance: presentation copies to Anthony Eden (de Gaulle authorial inscription in vol. I; vol. II with pencil note dated April 1971 by Anthony Eden noting receipt from de Gaulle's son). [And:] – Discours et messages. Paris: Plon, 1970. 3 volumes (unopened and uncut). Provenance: Charles de Gaulle (authorial presentation inscription in vol. I, to:) – Anthony Eden.
