First edition of this dictionary of zoology, botany, geology, mineralogy, chemistry and astronomy complete with the atlas in 3 volumes. D'Orbigny is a scientific reference for South America and one of the founders of stratigraphic paleontology.

13 volumes of text and 3 of plates, 8vo (238 x 150mm). 3 volumes of plates with 284 (of 288) splendid hand-coloured plates (the first 4 plates of the mammals are missing, light occasional spotting). Later half leather (defects, chipping, spiness detached) - 13 volumes of text bound in slightly later half red morocco with gilt title on spine (some light browning and general wear heavier to joints). The 13 volumes of text haven't been collated. (16)
