Elector Maximilian III Joseph of Bavaria Hüftbild in the cuirass to the right, with ribbon and star of the house order of knights from the Hl. George and the jewel of the order of the Golden fleece. Oil on canvas 84 x 66 cm. Doubled. Restoration. Frame damaged Maximilian III Joseph of Bavaria (1727 Munich in 1777, ibid.) was born as the son of the elector Karl Albrecht, later Emperor Charles VII and his Hapsburg wife Maria Amalie. In 1745, he entered as an elector of the successor of his father. The time of his reign, Maximilian had to try III, Joseph, to consolidate the financial situation of Bavaria. His 32-year reign is regarded foreign policy as a time of relative peace. The elector is considered to be a friend and patron of the arts and Sciences. With him the last representative of the old Bavarian died in 1777 on the line of the Wittelsbacher on the throne of the electorate.
