Lot 297 | Domaine Roumier, Bonnes-Mares 2005
Estimate value
£ 20 000 – 28 000
In 1924 Georges Roumier took over the Domaine which had previously belonged to his wife’s family in Chambolle Musigny. Production had until 1945 always been sold to local négociants until Roumier began domaine bottling. His son Jean-Marie succeeded in 1957 and his grandson Christophe took over in 1992.
The Domaine consists of approximately 13 hectares of vineyards spread over nine separate appellations. Their holdings include 0.1 hectares of Le Musigny Grand Cru, 0.2 hectares of Corton Charlemagne, 1.60 hectares of Bonnes-Mares and and 3.07 hectares of Chambolle-Musigny.
The grapes are sorted in the vineyard with a table de tri and depending on the vineyard and vintage, they are mostly destemmed then placed in wooden fermenters. Use of oak is restrictive, with new oak being limited to 15-25 percent for villages wines and no more than 50% for the Bonnes Mares. These wines are now regarded as some of the most precise and a greater sense of precision has been achieved in recent years.
