Lot 5087 | Eva Braun - elegantes zweiteiliges Trachtenkleid mit Seidentuch
Estimate value
€ 5 000
Made of dark brown watered silk, interwoven with a floral pattern. The spencer with long sleeves, puffed at the shoulder, seven traditional Bavarian buttons made of silver filigree, set with green and red glass stones (several are lost) and lined in linen. The monogram "EB" embroidered in silk in the typical shape sewn into the inside at the neck, the silk somewhat frayed at the outer nape area. The long skirt with an opening at the front, this fastening with hooks and concealed by the (missing) apron, the waistband with a drawstring and a small monogram "E.B." in Gothic lettering, embroidered in red on linen. A pocket sewn in on the right-hand side. Fine black linen lining, black velvet trim. The traditional scarf in cream-coloured silk, interwoven with a pattern of cherries, and fringed edges, knotted in places. Dimensions approx. 70 x 75 cm.
From elegant evening gowns to understated suits or even her grandmother's wedding dress, Eva Braun loved dressing up and presenting herself in different guises. Although she was barred from appearing at Hitler's side in public for the most part, countless private photographs attest to Eva Braun's capacity for transformation. Her favourite outfits were invariably traditional dirndls and elegant Bavarian costumes.
Provenance: Commanding Intelligence Officer of the District Greater Salzburg L. Frankenfield, who confiscated over 40 suitcases containing personal items belonging to Eva Braun, her sister Gretl Braun-Fegelein and Hermann Fegelein, near Salzburg in May 1945.
