"Pata" (Pichwai) "Gopashtami" - India, Rajasthan, Nathdwara, India, ca. 1830 - Pigments on cotton. "Gopashtami" is a Hindu festival that commemorates the day the God "Krishna" was promoted to the rank of a cowherd from a young herder of calves. "Krishna" is depicted in a showcase in his incarnation as "Shrinathji" and surrounded by a herd of white "kamadhenu" cows. On the festival of "Gopashtami" one offers prayers to the cows adorning them with saffron and tumeric. Pigmente auf Baumwolle. Das hinduistische Kuhfest wurde im Spätherbst zur Feier der Beförderung des "Shrinathji", zum Kuhherdenhüter begangen. "Shrinathji", die Manifestation des "Krishna" als Kind, ist innerhalb einer Reserve , umgeben von einer großen Kuhherde auf blauem Fond dargestellt. Beim "Gopashtami" Fest werden die Kühe mit Safran geschmückt und es werden Gebete an sie gerichtet. "Krishna" gilt als der ewige Beschützer der Kühe.
